HTC’s New Flagship, The HTC One M8

If you thought the HTC One was awesome, then you are going to be really excited about the new makeover it just got. HTC just launched their new flagship model, the HTC One M8, at a New York City event on Tuesday.

If you are just looking at it, you wont see many differences between this and the last model. There are quite a few upgrades though. The screen is a little bigger at 5 inches, it has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, it runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, and it has 2GB of ram. The HTC One M8 comes in either a 16GB model or a 32GB model, but both have a slot for a microSD card, so you can expand as much as you’d like. The outside is still metal, but this new version has rounded metal edges too which makes it a bit more smooth.

The back of a phone has two cameras on it. It’s a little bit confusing to think about it, but one of the camera captures the depth information of the picture so that you can do some editing tricks later. It’s made so that you can refocus the pictures and blur parts of them if you’d like. Kind of weird, but neat. The camera uses HTC’s UltraPixel, which uses a higher pixel count and bigger pixels in order to capture more light and take clearer pictures. The front facing camera has received an upgrade as well, and is now up to 5 megapixels.

The HTC One M8’s display has the same HD 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, but responds to gestures even when the phone is turned off. To unlock the phone, you slide your finger up the screen, and sliding to the right launches BlinkFeed.

BlinkFeed came out last year. It basically takes all of your social networks, calenders, and anything like that at puts it all in one spot for you so that you have everything you want to access regularly in one convenient spot. With the M8, BlinkFeed is getting more content as well.

It’s a shame, but HTC has been suffering financially. They haven’t really been anywhere near the top of the smartphone game for quite a bit. Hopefully, with the launch of this new phone, that will change. They have a lot riding on this new flagship model. I personally hope it does very well, I think HTC makes reliable, quality phones at a good price.

The phone is available in silver, gun metal, and gold. HTC is also offering a gray case for is with a perforated front that interacts with the screen and displays the time and alerts. You can pick up this phone and it’s spiffy case in stores on April 10th, or you can find it online now if you simply can’t wait.
