Sony wasn’t satisfied with the idea of releasing just one new smartphone like everyone else. They decided to release a whole family of phones, the Xperia Z3 family. There will also be a mid level priced Xperia E3. The new line of the Xperia Z3 phones includes the flagship Z3, the smaller Z3, and an 8 inch Xperia Z3 tablet.
The regular Xperia Z3 is super light. It is only 7.3 mm thick and weighs only 5.36 ounces. The smaller Xperia Z3 Compact comes in at 8.6 mm thick and weighs a mere 4.55 ounces. One of the coolest things about these two phones is the fact that consumers won’t have to worry about power and performance when choosing the phone size that they want. Both of these phones come with the same exact 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad core CPU, 3GB of RAM and a 20.7 megapixel rear camera. The cameras on both phones have an ISO range up to 12,800 which is the highest there has ever been on any smartphone. The only real difference between the two is the screen size. The Z3 has a 1080p display and the Z3 Compact has a 720p display, which is really good for it’s size and still considered HD.
The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact has an 8 inch screen, which has become the most popular screen size for compact tablets. It features a 1080p HD display. Sony is claiming that this is the slimmest and lightest compact tablet to ever exist. It is 6.4mm thick and weighs only 9.52 ounces. Inside this little tablet there is a 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad core CPU, which is the same processor found in both of the Z3 phones. It has 3GB of RAM and an integrated Adreno 330 GPU. Sony says that the tablet will have 13 hours of battery life on a full charge. This means that it is among the longest lasting tablets in the world. On top of all that coolness, it comes with an 8.1 MP rear camera in the rear and a 2.2 MP camera in the front for video chatting or anything else you’d use a front facing camera for.
Sony’s PS4 Remote Play integration is exclusive to the Z3 family, which is another huge selling point for all of these products. This allows you to use the phone or tablet as a remote screen. If you use a Dual Shock 4 controller and the GCM10 Game Control unit you can turn your Z3 product into a mobile PS4. It basically streams the video to your device over a Wi-Fi connection. This means that you can play games outside, in a different room, in the bathroom, whatever or wherever you want. It is pretty convenient. And if you do like to game outside, you don’t have to worry about rain because every Z3 device is waterproof!
Let us not forget about the lower priced Xperia E3 smartphone that I mentioned earlier. It has a 4.5 inch 854 x 480 display, a quad core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU and 1GB of RAM. This is the lowest end model so you have to expect some quality cuts somewhere. This one only has a 5 MP rear camera, which isn’t bad but certainly not as good as the Z3 line. You can also expand the storage as much as you’d like with an SD card.
There is no word on an official price or an official release date for these devices, but with the holidays quickly approaching you can bet on hearing some concrete news on that in the near future.
