Sharp Is Bringing Their Smartphones To The United States

sharp aquos crystalSharp isn’t really known for being a smartphone company, especially in the United States. Generally they are known as being a TV manufacturer. In Japan though, Sharp has been selling smartphones for a while. Now they are going to be bringing their smartphone business to the United States.

Sharp just released their Aquos Crystal smartphone in the United States this past Tuesday. It also released in Japan along with another smartphone from the company that will not be coming out here. For right now, the only place you will be able to get it is through Sprint, Boost Mobile, or Virgin Mobile.

Sharp and SoftBank actually own Sprint now. They announced the device a little bit earlier than its press event in New York which happened on Wednesday. The phone has a borderless HD display that runs into the edge of the new smartphone, so it was very funny that the event’s tagline was “take the edge off”. At least I got a kick out of it.

The new phone has a 5 inch display and runs Android 4.4.2 “KitKat”. It features a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Other features include an 8MP rear camera, a 1.2MP front camera, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. You can also expand the memory to `18GB with an SD card.

The Aquos Crystal is available in two different colors. You probably already guessed that they are black and white. This is fine because they are the only two colors that should be on a phone in my opinion. They will be priced at $199 through the prepaid services that carry them.

The Japan exclusive version of the phone is called the Aquos Crystal X. It comes with an extra half inch on the display, a 2.3HGz Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal Storage.
