Free At Last! Free At Last! Thank God Almighty We Are Free At Last….From Facebook Video AutoPlay

facebookIf you’re like me (and, arguably, the rest of the world) then you probably spend a lot of time on Facebook. Love it or hate it, we just can’t seem to get enough of knowing everything about everyone. If you’re even more like me then you probably spend a lot of time on Facebook on your smartphone, tablet or other mobile device. I spend a lot of time on my smartphone’s Facebook app and while I love it, there is one thing that particularly frustrates me, the auto-playing of videos.

For some reason there is an unusual amount of videos on my Facebook feed. This becomes an annoyance when I’m casually scrolling through and videos just start playing with no prompt from myself. The worst part is that it’s not just on the app, but on the desktop version of the site as well. If you’re like me (sorry for constantly comparing you to myself) then these autoplay videos probably royally annoy you. Well, I have the solution!

Apparently you can turn this feature off in both the mobile app as well as on the desktop site. Your only option previously when wanting to disable autoplay was when you were on a cellular connection but now you can disable it entirely. The route to autoplay freedom is different depending on if you are using an iPhone, Android smartphone or computer.

If you are using an iPhone, iPad or iPod then here’s what you need to do. First, go to the Settings on your device and scroll down until you find Facebook. Tap on it and then tap on Settings. After that, tap on the Autoplay setting and choose either WiFi only or Off. This will cause videos to only autoplay when you are connected to a WiFi connection or to be disabled altogether.

If you are using an Android device then you will be able to find the autoplay settings within the actual Facebook app itself. To disable on Android all you have to do is tap the menu button and then choose Settings and the option is there.

Like I mentioned earlier, you can also disable the autoplay settings for videos on the desktop website as well, should it be an annoyance there as well. In order to disable video autoplay on your desktop click on the down arrow located in the upper right corner of your Facebook page to show the drop-down menu. From here, click Settings and then click Videos from the left-hand navigation panel and click Off. It’s literally that simple.

This is a great thing to do for a couple reasons. One reason is that this removes the annoyance of videos autoplaying on your news feed which is truly irritating. The other reason this is a good idea is because when videos autoplay on your mobile devices, they run up your data usage. I bet you never thought of that. Every single time a video autoplays on your mobile device data is being used if you’re not connected to WiFi. Now you can disable this and bring autoplay to an end. ¬†You’re welcome.
