Sony’s New Xperia T2 Ultra and T2 Ultra Dual Handsets

Sony is looking to compete with smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the Huawei Ascend with their newly announced Android handsets, the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual. Both new handsets feature a 6 inch display with 720p resolution.

The company says that the new smartphone models have been designed to cater to emerging smartphone markets like China, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. This leads us to believe that the handsets will be very reasonably priced, although there is no official word yet.

The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra has a design that is based off of the line of Xperia Z handsets. One thing that it did not take from the Xperia Z is the waterproofing, but Sony did however take constructive criticism from their customers by making sure the screen reached all the way to 2.5 mm off the edge of the phone. The Xperia T2 Ultra is 7.6mm thick and weighs only 173g, which is impressive for the size of the device.

Powering the new smartphones is a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. There is a microSD slot for upgrading up to 32GB. Both of the devices come with a 3000mAh battery and Stamina functions that are programmed into Sony’s custom version of the Android OS. The Stamina functions paired with the batter should get you through the whole day without any issues.

You also have a 13 megapixel camera on the back with Exmor R sensor, and a 1.1 megapixel camera for the front. New camera features include timeshift, burst, and collage, much like the new camera features on Apple‘s latest iPhone. Sony says that the camera is the best in its class.

Both of Sony’s new handsets come with 4G LTE connectivity, and for the people out there looking for the option of having two sims, the T2 Ultra Dual has you covered.

The announcement of the Sony Xperia T2 and T2 Ultra came right after the launch of the Xperia Z1 compact at CES 2014. There is no word on price or availability yet.
