Mysterious Exploding iPad Was Apparently NOT an iPad Air, Says Vodafone

Remember the other day when I wrote about the exploding iPad Air? Well in case you missed it, Recent reports said an iPad Air had exploded in a Vodafone store in Canberra, Australia, leading to plenty of speculation about what caused the device to burst into flames. However, sources say that said iPad was not an iPad Air, but instead an older model.

“It was an earlier generation iPad with Retina display model — not one of the more recently launched devices. Apple is investigating the cause,” says a Vodafone Australia spokesperson.

This new development clashes with the wide spread news of the iPad in question in fact being a brand new iPad Air.

When contacted and asked for a statement, a representative on site at the cities Apple store refused to comment on the iPad explosion.

Another Vodafone Australia representative offered equally not-so-helpful words on the incident as the first. “Can confirm it was not an Air; all I know it was a Retina model, so a 3 or 4,” the spokesperson said. “

Apple has taken the device for investigation, so no one will know any more until that is done. Which, let’s face it, means we will never really know.

As for the potential of sales dropping from these iPad Air reports, based on all of the comments from our sources, those interested in purchasing Apple’s latest tablet should not be afraid.

It is said that Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
