Lenovo to Open First U.S. Manufacturing Plant to Focus on ThinkPad Laptops, Tablets and PCs

LenovoAccording to a recent company statement, Lenovo is planning on opening up its very first computer manufacturing plant in the United States. The plant, according to the company, will focus primarily on making PCs, laptops and tablets with Lenovo’s ThinkPad branding.

Lenovo is planning on opening the factory in early 2013 where it will be located in Whitsett, North Carolina. The factory is¬†predicted to create nearly 115 manufacturing jobs and will be Lenovo’s first factory located in the United States. Other factories from the company are located in Mexico and Brazil with the home base for the company being located in China.

Lenovo was previously the world’s second largest PC manufacturer behind HP at the end of the second quarter. However, the company is growing at a rapid rate and quickly closing in on that top spot. Lenovo’s strongest market presence is in the Asia-Pacific and Europe areas, though the company is still growing in the United States.

The main operations for the company are in North Carolina, which makes the location of the new factory perfect. In addition to that, Lenovo has a distribution center in the state, further increasing the company’s overall presence in the state, as well as in the country.
