Droid Razr and Razr Maxx Getting Ice Cream Sandwich, Verizon and Motorola Confirm

Droid Razr MaxxDo you own a new Razr or Razr Maxx and are tired of waiting on Android 4.0? Well, your wait is finally over because Motorola has just promised that Ice Cream Sandwich, the most recent OS update for Android mobile devices, will be coming to Razr and Razr Maxx users in the second quarter of 2012.  Q2 is right around the corner, and it looks like Motorola and Verizon have all hands on deck to make sure they keep their promise.

Internal leaks from Verizon that have been spilling out regularly for the past few months keep seeing the release schedule pushed back for the update. The most recent bit of news noted that the Android 4.0 update would be coming June 12. Well, June 12 has come and gone and still no updates. However, the internal sources at Verizon noted that the internal calendar remained June 12 and that the delay was in another department.

On Friday things got a little clearer when Verizon sent out the following text message to some Razr users:

Free Verizon Message: Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported in Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM!

I’m sure all of you are lamenting the loss of Mobile IM, which I know you used religiously…. but if I had to choose between Mobile IM and Ice Cream Sandwich, I think I’m going to choose Ice Cream Sandwich. If any Razr or Razr Maxx users are reading this, have you received the text message or the upgrade to Android 4.0? Let me know in the comments section and tell me what you think of the new OS. I’m really interested to see how it runs.
