Samsung Galaxy S III Coming in June, 5 U.S. Carriers On Board

Samsung Galaxy S IIIStarting this month, the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone will be available from five different U.S. carriers, each carrier having a slightly different timetable for when this device will debut. According to a recent statement from Samsung, pricing for the 16GB version will begin at $199 with a new two-year contract.

In addition to that, Sprint and T-Mobile announced separately that sales of the device would start on June 21. However, Sprint was the only one to announce a pricing scheme, listing the device at $199 for the 16GB version and $249 for the 32GB version. Most analysts also expect other major carriers to have similar pricing schemes and schedules.

Verizon announced that it will be taking pre-orders on the device beginning on Wednesday, June 6 and that the pricing will be the same as Sprint’s. However, Verizon did not reveal an official release date and only stated that the Samsung Galaxy S III would arrive in the “coming weeks”.

AT&T didn’t announce a single thing about the device. No word on when the smartphone will drop on the carrier or how much it will cost, though a spokeswoman did say that those details would be announced soon. U.S. Cellular stated that it will start pre-orders for the device on June 12 with actual sales starting in July, though they also didn’t reveal pricing plans.

The major change with the Android 4.0 device on the U.S. front is the dual-core processor. The Samsung Galaxy S III will run a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, which has already been clocked at 1.5 GHz. The European model runs a quad-core ARM Cortex A9, clocked at 1.3GHz and was announced in London on May 3.

All of the five major carriers in the U.S. offering the Galaxy S III are building up their 4G LTE networks or have HSPA+ networks. Average download speeds are also in excess of 10Mbps across the board for these 4G networks, regardless of the carrier.

Many people are very excited about the Samsung Galaxy S III, myself included. I get to upgrade in a couple of weeks and I was wondering what phone I was going to get. I think I’m going to go with the Galaxy S III, though if Verizon doesn’t change their stupid new data plans, I may be switching carriers when I switch phones.
