United Airlines Announces Mobile Check-Ins for International Travels

mobile check-inUnited Continental has recently announced the expansion of their mobile check-in service as well as their mobile boarding passes to United customers traveling with international agendas. Anybody using the mobile check-in option has the ability to check in at united.com using a web-enabled mobile device within 24 hours prior to their flight’s departure.

The mobile boarding pass option, which is being adopted by many airlines throughout the world, is now available to customers departing from airports in London, Munich, Amsterdam, Brussels, Geneva, Zurich, Moscow and Osaka. United plans on introducing the mobile boarding passes at additional international airports, including Frankfurt, Tokyo Narita and Hong Kong in the next couple of months.

United currently offers paperless boarding passes at 62 airports in the United States including United’s hubs in Chicago, Denver, Washington Dulles, San Francisco and Los Angeles. According to Vice President of Customer Experience with United Martin Hand, “The expansion of our mobile check-in feature and paperless boarding option to international travel enables our customers to enjoy even more flexibility and control throughout their travel experience.”

United’s, as well as Continental’s, mobile boarding passes display two-dimensional bar codes along with the customer information as well as the flight information that the scanners at the security checkpoints and gates can scan and validate.

A refresh of the mobile boarding pass will update any changes to seat assignments, gate changes and upgrade confirmations and this technology also prevents manipulation or duplication of the boarding passes and even enhances security.

Technology is making some pretty big waves in the way we travel and these online boarding passes and mobile check-ins are only the beginning. It is truly exciting to see where this type of technology will go next and what we’ll be able to do with it.
